What the FAIR Plan rate hike means for Paradise homeowners
California's insurer of last resort, the FAIR Plan, received approval for an average 30% rate increase that takes effect October 15, 2026, applying at each policyholder's first renewal after that date. Because most of the increase is tied to wildfire exposure, homes in high fire-risk areas are expected to see jumps of 30% to 50% or more, with some properties facing increases as high as 200%. About 663,000 California FAIR Plan residential policyholders are affected.
